UCLA creates transparent solar cell, dreams of current generating windows

Clear photovoltaics have yet to elegance the face of your mobile phone, but don't lose heart -- UCLA scientists are working on a new see-through solar panel that's displaying potential. Using a new type of plastic solar panel, the team has been able to develop a system that transforms infra-red light into electric present. Current prototypes feature 4 % energy transformation performance at 66 % visibility -- not superior, but certainly clean enough to fellow through. According to a research in ACS New ipod nano, the technological innovation could be used in "building-integrated photovoltaics or incorporated photovoltaic or pv battery rechargers for convenient gadgets." Translation? It could one day be used to develop solar microsoft windows or better sun gathering mobile phones. Don't get too thrilled though, the technological innovation still has a ways to go before any of these goals come to being. Still, you can head past the break for the crew's formal news launch, or miss to the source to take in the full educational research.
